What Yamaha dirt bike is this?
Brochure Text part 1
Brochure Text part 2
I guess that wasn't the bike?
Sorry,,,That's the ONLY White Yamaha IT 250 "special edition" ever made.
And it also was the debut of Yamaha's then "latest greatest" "powerband thing".
Big Deal at the time.
Yamaha has 40 or 50 "whites",,all color coded.
The White IT's were Unique because they had a special white,,used ONLY on them,,for that single year,,,,and it did not even have a paint code.
The "special edition" aspect---was Unpublicized, thus Unofficial.
Pre '81 IT's were IT Bikes,,,NOT "enduro" bikes.
IT = International Trials
FIM is oldestlargest bike racing organization in the world.
About 100 Member Countries, and over 100 years old.
ISDT (abbreviated as IT) was International Six Days Trials.
That was an FIM sanctioned event,,
and The Oldest Dirt Bike competition in all of motorcycling.
In 1980,,,FIM did an update/facelift on their ISDT program.
They also RENAMED the old classic ISDT to
ISDE>International Six Day ENDURO,rather than Trials.
Yamaha chose not to produce an Official Commemorative Edition IT bike,,,(red tape, licensing issues, etc),,
but instead made an unanounced "Special Edition"
IT bike in Recognition of FIM's UpGrade of the classic ISDT.
ALL Yamaha IT's are Blue since the series inception (US Market ,anyways---Euro Models were Red)
Yamaha had several significant updates slated to appear for '81 IT's,,,,chose to add a New Styling Look also,,,and the new Colour for a Single Year to commemorate FIM's action.
This is funny.
Power Band has come to be a Buzzword/ Hype Term in recent years that folks like to bandy about while bench racing and such.
It's an OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTIC of all engines.
Not an Item,,or Device.
It's become such a common topic,,,LOTS of folks who aquire the jargon ASSUME it's a physical component of 2 Stroke Bikes in particular.
Anyway,,what's Humourous to me about it,,
Is that an 1981 IT250 DID INDEED have a "PowerBand THING">>>an actual DEVICE.
In fact,,what makes it distinctive in regards to IT's,,
is that it made it's Debut on>>> 1981 White IT 250
It's Actually called YEIS ,,but absolutely Is a "powerband THING",,,added to the bike.
What it isdoes is a whole nother story.
Whatever,,,,Sorry I was not able to help you.
I was hoping your Dad would get a kick out of seeing an Original,Official Yamah Brochure with Pictures,,and Specs,,and a bit of Advertising/Promo Hype announcing the introduction of the Only "Special Edition White IT 250 w/ that Powerband Thing"
But I hope you understand now why I was so certain that the 1981 4V3 IT250H was Bound to be the " special white IT 250" you were asking about.
Y'all maybe had just a plain one,,with a repaint,,,or maybe a regular European model,they were white.
Or something other than a 250
Maybe it was a TY?
They had a lotta white on them,,,and lots of people consider Observed Trials bike "special".
Plus they'll lift front wheel at will
